Filled in :
You met her when I talked about why you need a business bestie, and I’m certain this won’t be the last time you hear of Brittany! This might be obvious, but when Brittany asked me to photograph her branding portraits I was beyond excited!
Brittany recently revamped her workspace! Meaning, she went from laptop on the couch to an actual work area that she can associate mentally with the ‘get things done’ attitude. I’m a big proponent of having a space for everything! It can make tasks so much easier when you mentally associate them with a certain part of your life.
I have to mention this- Brittany reluctantly asked for branding photos. When I ask another photographer for branding photos I generally do so jumping up and down and nearly yelling because I’m so excited! When Brittany asked it was more of a whisper and included the words, “I don’t want to, but I need to”.
After sharing her beautiful branding portraits with her, Brittany finally got excited! In the end, she saw the vision that I had in my mind’s eye the entire time and I’m thrilled that she loves them!
We’ve all seen them- the super stuffy upgraded school photos. The, “look here, tilt your head, smile bigger- CLICK”. The ‘professional headshot’. While I know these have their place in the world I have been loving seeing better and better professional headshots in the corporate world!
But you’re not in corporate America. You’re a creative small business owner! You need more than one photo for your resume and professional social media profiles. You need a group of cohesive portraits that you can use throughout your web presence as a whole.
You need branding portraits!
Your Facebook, Instagram, Pinterest, LinkedIn, Twitter, and any other social platform profile photos should all match. If they are not the exact same photo they should be from the same branding portrait session to ensure recognizability with your audience!
Not only can you use them as your profile photos you should sprinkle them throughout your social feeds in personal posts. Your audience seeing you and familiarizing yourself with you is such a great marketing tool (and it’s free!). Bonus points when these photos come from the same branding session- again, your audience recognizing you instantly is key! Just think of how fast we scroll.
I cannot stress this enough! If you serve clients, you should have a good deal of branding portraits on your website. People love making purchases that include a personal connection. My clients don’t just book me as their wedding photographer because they love my photography. They book me because we click, AND they love my photography!
So start creating a relationship with potential clients straight away from your website! You’re about me should, of course, have your branding portraits, but don’t be afraid to use them in other areas of your website as well!
This is a new idea I’ve had to stay memorable! I order my business cards from Moo.com (email me if you’ve never tried them I have about a zillion coupon codes I’d love to give out!) and you are able to have photos on both sides of your cards.
Imagine this- you meet a potential client in the line at Starbucks. You give her your business card and one side has a breathtaking portfolio image and the other side a branding portrait. The card itself then becomes a conversation topic! It’s memorable, and you’re literally on the card so you’re becoming memorable!
& More! There are so many great, and marketable, uses for your branding portraits!
