Getting to know Jamie and Katie over coffee for a bit while we waited out the sideways rain was such a pleasure! I think this is also the perfect time to mention (in my best The Most Interesting Man in the World voice) my weather applications don’t always lie to me, but when they do it’s the 10% chance rain on an anniversary session morning in Paris. Seriously though, 10%! When I arrived to the location I huddled with the other photographers under an awning and we couldn’t help but joke about how a measly 10% chance for light rain could be so sideways and so deterring.
Jamie, Katie, and I took the downpour as a sign to get some caffeine in our bodies and chat before heading to the location for their Eiffel Tower anniversary session, take 2!
My biggest takeaway from our pre-session coffee date? It can take some big sacrifices to focus on your marriage! Sometimes, a lot of times, when you reach the first ‘big’ marriage milestone whether you consider that 1, 5, or 10 you have kiddos, or are thinking about starting a family.
And when you have a child your focus shifts a bit- and rightfully so! Not everything is about your marriage exclusively anymore, it’s about the family. Sprinkled throughout my blog posts and Anniversary Experience page you’ll hear me talk about focusing on your marriage (because it came before the family!).
That can be very difficult! Not because you don’t want to, but because life happens. It can be hard to plan a date night once a month much less a European getaway just you and your man, but it’s so worth it and I know these two would emphasize that to you.
Jamie and Katie are parents to two beautiful girls and they were missing out on a few weeks their Summer together to jetset to Europe. That might sound like a huge deal to non-parents and parents alike, but among the every day things they missed they were also missing a dance recital. A recital that would be their youngests first! As a parent myself, I never want to miss a first of anything.
So when Katie told me exactly what they were missing and then hearing her ease of saying, “it sinks, but what are you gonna do”… Well I won’t lie, my momma heart sank just a tad, but she’s so right! There’s always going to be something and constantly putting off celebrating your marriage is simply not a great option.
Sometimes you have to make a sacrifice to focus on your marriage, but I’m a firm believer that it’s incredibly worth it to remember the love that started it all!
