Your Engagement Photographs and How To Use Them! | Alicia Yarrish Photography | Houston Wedding Photographer | France Destination Wedding & Anniversary Photographer

If you’ve been around me for more than two seconds you know that I am super passionate about getting your photographs out of the technology that sits on your desk and into your real life. Sure, you can open a folder on your computer or phone and see the photos on demand, but realistically how often do you do that? If your anything like me that doesn’t happen often. Not because I don’t intend to, but because life happens.

When I have canvases, framed fine art prints, and heirloom albums positioned around my home though I have the pleasure of reliving so many memories every single day. I walk up the stairs and am reminded of Teylor and my first trip to my Aunt and Uncles home together as a couple. I am reminded of that time I got a pixie cut and donated my hair to Locks of Love. I see a hilarious photo of my great grandmother with all her great-grandchildren spread out because it was impossible to get all the small children in one place at the same time. I get to relive my wedding day and get sudden bursts of emotion that usually end up in me smiling to myself. And that’s all from simply walking upstairs!

I cannot imagine my life without tangible photos, but ‘traditional’ prints and canvases aren’t the only one way you are able to use your engagement photographs.

Ways to Showcase your Engagement Session Photographs

1. Send a print of you and yours with your Save The Dates or wedding invitations.

When I get a beautifully written and designed save the date with a photo it gets me excited! It’s no longer just paper in the mail. I can see the couple in love and so happy in this milestone, it’s an experience. Those photos go straight on an adorable cork board in my breakfast nook and I love seeing them each morning.

2. Create a wedding day guestbook album created from your engagement photographs.

I would be more than happy to design an album for your guests to see all of your beautiful engagement sessions photographs and be able to say congrats, good luck, or give some advice. It’s a keepsake you will always cherish from your wedding day that will withstand the test of time.

3. Use your portraits on your holiday cards or new home announcements.

Your first year of marriage is a busy one! You might be moving into a new home with your husband or busy writing thank you notes until your hand feels like it’s going to fall off. You’ll likely be doing the paperwork to change your last name in a million different places. You’re busy enjoying life as a newlywed! Will you have time for a photography session for your holiday cards? If so, I congratulate you and would be happy to photograph those for you! If not, that’s okay- use your engagement photos! Your friends and family love seeing them 🙂

4. Hang prints throughout your home.

Even though I’ve already mentioned it, they deserve a proper place among the list- print products. Have you photographs printed on fine art paper to be framed or displayed in a beautiful silk print box. You’ll never be sorry you’ve chosen to showcase your engagement photographs all around your home. They will remind you of your love and your commitment, and so many fun times if you’ve been thoughtful in selecting your engagement session location and other details.

5. Create a one of a kind heirloom album and leave a legacy

I saved the best (and my most favorite!) for last, your heirloom album. Most of my couples plan to create their wedding heirloom album during their booking process, but I always applaud those who think ahead and plan their engagement heirloom album as well!

There are truly so many ways to showcase your engagement session photographs, it would take me days to cover them all. Some couples choose to tuck one away in their guests’ gift baskets or incorporate them into their wedding decor. The options are endless!

I’d love to hear about how you showcased your engagement photographs!

Did you use your engagement photos in a unique and meaningful way? Or plan to? I’d love to hear about it in the comments!

I love this! It’s so so important to print your engagement photos. Technology moves so fast and before we know it our technology will be the new floppy disc and we won’t have access to all of these incredible memories. This post seriously encouraged me to order some prints of my own family – so thank you for sharing!

    • Sharee you just made my heart SO happy <3 You're so beyond right- our current technology will someday be antiquated! I can't wait to see how you print your family photos! I'm a total wall gallery girl myself 😉

  2. Dave says:

Ordering prints is the best! Strongly reccomend for any couples who have gotten their engagement photos done recently. If I lived closer to houston you would be my first choice for an engagement photographer!

  3. Cierra says:

I absolutely love this post. So many people forget the importance of actually printing their images and having them physically in their hands. The impact of an image in your hand, on the wall or in a book has always seemed so much more important than when I’ve seen it on a screen. Thank you for all of the advice, I’m sure many Houston couples will now want engagement photos printed now!

  4. Kara says:

I LOVE printing not only engagement photos but a few favorites from all the sessions we’ve gotten done over the years. It makes me happy to see the moments on the wall!

  5. Laura P says:

Yes, if we don’t start getting things in print we may be a generation or two without photo memories. Have some great engagement photos taken in Houston and put them on your walls, people!

  6. These are such great tips! We will be sure to follow them when we have our engagement photos taken! 🙂

  7. Ali Rost says:

My husband and I really love to have prints all throughout the house. While we’re 25 years out from the time we got engaged, we instead have photos of family and our 5 pets everywhere. I always smile when I see them and makes me feel like they’re right here with us. x

  8. Jennifer M Outlaw says:

These are some really great ways to use your engagement photos. I really love to see people printing out their photos and hanging them up in their home to share with family and friends that come over. I hate how so many people keep everything digital. You are an amazing Houston Engagement Photographer to have shared this.

  9. Sarah Holladay says:

Yes, yes, yes! You will be so happy years down the road when you choose to showcase and display your engagement photos! I love the idea of a heirloom album or a guestbook at your wedding. Those pieces will be a treasure for years to come. Wonderful advice for engagement sessions and Houston weddings alike!
