How I achieve Fine Art Quality Prints | Alicia Yarrish Photography | European Fine Art Destination Wedding & Anniversary Photographer

The Steps to Fine Art Quality Prints

Digital cameras encourage us to snap more and pause less. When I shoot film, I take all the time in the world to get a frame that I know will be a worthy addition to my walls. I take in the scene. I let my inspiration guide me to the perfect shot. I take the necessary steps to ensure a technically great photograph- checking the light and environment and compensating my settings accordingly. These are the foundations for fine art quality prints!

With the technical side complete, I line up the frame and use manual focus to lock on the part of the photo I love the most. I take a deep breath in and press the shutter while exhaling- and film gives off such a satisfying shutter sound!

After I finish a roll of film I find a dark place and unload it. I make sure it’s in a safe spot and ready to ship to my professional lab who develops and scans my photographs. I know that my professional film lab understands my preferences and fine tunes my photos just how I would if I were personally scanning them.

Then my favorite step in the process: Scan day! The day I wake up to an email with a link to download my film scans. I swear it makes the photographs better to have delayed gratification with film. 😉

After learning how to slow down for film, I’ve been able to implement that thought process into my digital workflow. Ensuring that my digital frames are just as well thought out, and exhibit just as much quality, as my film work.

When I receive your film scans back and am complete with editing your digitals you receive your online gallery.

I love online galleries! But it’s really just a vehicle for getting your beautiful photographs on high-quality paper to have present in your lives.

The Curation

I brag about my vendors all the time. Why? Because I’m excited to work with outstanding industry professionals to deliver fine art quality prints and products to my couples! It’s taken years to find professionals that I’m 100% proud to work with. Now that I’ve found them, I love to sing their praises!

After receiving your online gallery, we curate your heirlooms. It’s an effort between you, me, and the superstars physically creating your heirlooms. At each step in the process, we’re filtering all decisions through the lens of three questions.

What will bring joy in your marriage for years to come, what do you want to strike up conversation in your home, and what will you be proud to pass on to your great great grandchildren.

With those questions in mind, you two decide which photographs you’d like in your album, museum photo box, and on archival quality prints and what sizes. Then I get to work!

For your heirloom albums, I work with one of the top album designers in the industry. We collaborate and design intentional spreads for your album. These are the pages that will not only tell your love story but document every detail for years to come. After finalizing your album spread designs they are whisked away to my absolute favorite album craftsmen.

Your desired prints are handled by a professional lab that prints on my favorite archival grade papers that enhance your photos for generations.

With all your heirlooms, I take pride in the final review to ensure color accuracy and quality before packaging them up for you!

The stats

• All my prints have an Archival Value of 100 years in home display; 200 years in dark storage. As a result, you’re able to pass these cherished heirlooms down to your great great grandchildren!

• I’m proud to support our economy and say that all printed products offered are made in America!

• Your heirloom albums are created by a bookbinder that has been professionally crafting albums since 1942

• 780 million people lack access to clean drinking water and 2.5 billion lack access to a toilet. Because of this eye-opening stat, a portion of all fine art quality print sales goes directly to Water.org to help give someone hope and a future!

• Like me and want the nerdy details? Your fine art quality prints are giclèe prints on Hahnemühle paper (say that 5 times fast)
