There are about a million ways to choose your wedding date. The ways range from closing your eyes and pointing on a calendar to meticulously choose a date with numbers that speak to you. No matter how you choose to do it I recommend starting simple after you’ve said yes and are engaged– how soon do you want to get married?
If the answer to that question is 6 months or under you might not have the luxury of choosing a sentimental date. Choosing based on your dream venue, which I discuss below, isn’t bad! And probably the way to go when planning your quickly approaching wedding date.
However, if you’re planning your wedding a year or more out you’ll find you can have some fun with choosing your date!
No matter how far or soon you want to say, “I do” you can use these fun ways to choose your wedding date to make the process a little less mundane!
Are you the girl that knows the date of your first date, first kiss, first everything? It’s fun to commemorate the firsts with your wedding day! Some brides choose their grandparents anniversary as their own wedding date which I think is an amazing way to commemorate important relationships in your life.
If you stop and really think about it there are so many important dates in your life. A little birdie has told me that grooms love when they say, “I do” on their dateiversary so they don’t have to learn a new date to celebrate 😉
I know plenty of couples that loved to use a number pattern to choose their wedding date! Even though it was on a Friday, 07/07/2017 was popular because of the number. You can get really clever and choose a palindrome date. The same number forwards and back, although this really depends on the year!
It could also simply be a date with lots of numbers that speak to you. No matter how you interpret this one it’s one of my favorites on the list of fun ways to choose your wedding date! Numbers can be a really great way to choose your date. After all, you’re going to remember your date for forever.
Your wedding day will look a lot different depending on the season. Obviously, there might be more rain or leaves or color, but it will also affect your wedding day timeline! Starting with your favorite season, and the season that allows you to have the photos you want is a great way to narrow down your wedding date. After you’ve picked a season you’ve narrowed the weekends down to three months instead of twelve- much more manageable!
Some couples avoid holidays with the thoughts that it might negatively affect their guest list. While others embrace holidays and enjoy having family in town for an extended weekend! Whichever way you feel about borrowing a holiday it will narrow down your wedding date choices a lot if you’re either avoiding them or embracing them.
Plus, your guy will have a much easier time remembering your anniversary if it’s a holiday every year 😉 And you two can just pretend everyone is celebrating your marriage. Cheers!
This is a common option especially if you’re getting married sooner rather than waiting a year or more. If there’s a venue you must say, “I do” at call them up and get their available dates for the season and year you are looking into. That can help you decide on a wedding date real quick!
If you don’t have a dream venue yet, start looking! Like I said, if you’re wanting to wed relatively soon you’ll want to lock down a venue pretty quickly.
Ok so, you’ve used these five fun ways to choose your wedding date and you’ve got a date (yay!). Now what? Now the planning begins! Now is the time to get your most important vendors reserved for your wedding date. These vendors are different for every couple.
If you’re a couple who values moments and documenting them well your top vendors to get reserved might be your wedding planner, venue, photographer, videographer, and live artist.
As I said, these can change depending on what you two are most passionate about! I’m a little biased, but I believe no matter your focus for your day the first vendors on your list remain the same: planner, venue, and wedding photographer.
Getting these three professionals hired first will set a great foundation for your wedding planning adventure. And of course, the most important thing to do after choosing your wedding date- have an amazing time wedding planning!
