This Hotel Galvez wedding day was unlike any other. The winds from the beach were fierce and the forecast was for not only rain, but storms. In the end, the wind remained and it never rained one drop. For anyone who has not visited Texas- that’s Texas for ya!
I’ve been to many a wedding and John, Lane, and their families, absolutely blew me away with the amount of sentiment they planned into their big day. Lane put her finishing touches on so many events throughout the day as well as details. My absolute favorite was her significant impact on both her Dads. Lane’s Mother assisted her into her gown, buttoning the buttons, and ensuring perfection. Then she headed down to her first look location. She gave each of her Dads time on her day for a first look and for a moment alone. It was the sweetest thing!
Never having met these two prior to their wedding day at Hotel Galvez I didn’t know what personality types I’d be photographing. First I was introduced to Lane, then John. Before ever seeing this couple interact together, and only meeting them for a quick moment each, I knew their love was strong and so was their faith. Lane is such a caring person and is quick to know when John is being talked about in a story without anyone saying his name. John is a goofball and comes with a lot of goofball friends that support John and Lane strongly.
When it came time to get serious though, John did. The very moment he turned to see his stunning bride, Lane, during their first look was the highlight of their wedding day. Well, that’s what I’m proclaiming. The smile on John’s face was the most genuine, just blissful. He teared up as Lane walked towards him and when they finally got to embrace it was such a powerful moment.
I could go on forever about their day! Seriously, I could. The absolute beauty of a Hotel Galvez wedding. Lane had a father daughter dance with both important men in her life. The couple sent out the most beautiful classic invitation suites. The personalized robes and mimosa flutes for each of her bridesmaids. How the ring bearer looked up to and admired John, his uncle. Their beautiful florals throughout their day. And most importantly, the party Lane’s parents hosted to celebrate their daughter starting a life with John! It was so evident everyones love and support for the couple and it was a beautiful thing to witness.
Being the second photographer at weddings is such a fun time! It’s completely different than being the primary photographer. When second shooting you don’t usually know the couple you’ll be photographing. You haven’t been in communication with them for a year. You didn’t photograph their engagement session. You don’t know a thing about their personalities and how to best serve them.
It’s a challenge in completely different ways than being a couples’ primary wedding photographer! When Bonner, of Bonner Rhea Photography, reached out to me about second shooting John and Lane’s wedding at Hotel Galvez I knew it would be fun! Bonner is such a kind and fun woman full of the perfect mix of calm and hustle.
Being a second shooter is half photographer and half assistant. It feels so good to be able to help in a way that can impact a wedding so much- all behind the scenes!
I only commit to 20 couples per year of my own because I want them to have my absolute full attention! Another 10-15 weekends a year I make myself available to second shoot.
