Why I am making it a priority to take my own advice

alicia-yarrish-photography-frames-heirloomsalicia-yarrish-photography-prints-heirloomsIf you know me, or have looked around at my website any, you know that I am adamant about getting your memories out of the computer and onto beautiful, real, touchable paper– tangible heirlooms! I encourage all of my clients, friends, family, and complete strangers to print print print their photographs! Why? I will spare you my full rant and give you the short version 😉

I think it is so important to be surrounded by times that make you feel warm and fuzzy inside! When Teylor is gone extensively for work I pull out every framed photo of him I have and put them all on the dresser so when I wake up each morning I see a whole lot of husband! Is this crazy and an extreme? Possibly, but it makes me feel so much better. Just in general seeing family and friends on my walls makes me happier throughout the day.

If a happiness boost isn’t enough reason to get your photographs printed, what about for your kiddos or your future kiddos? You may have beautiful memories captured of family they will never have the opportunity to meet. How great would it be for them to hear stories about those family members and really get to know them! Or stories about YOU, their parents, before their tiny selves came into being! Stories you may never think to tell them or think they wouldn’t even be interested in otherwise. Those situations probably won’t happen if those beautiful memories are hidden in the depths of your computer.

Do you need another reason? Because I have tons more, but this one is really important & near and dear to me- have photos on your wall to keep your relationship healthy. That sounds far fetched, right? I cannot tell you how many times Teylor and I have gotten into a near fight then I look up and see a photo of us on our first date, or our wedding, or in Prague having an amazing time. That has such an impact on me. It has literally stopped me from saying some pointless things that would have caused unnecessary escalation. Seeing those memories have made me pause, breathe, and remember those moments and how I felt then. All married people, or seriously dating folks, know that no matter how much you adore & unconditionally love your spouse there are times when you don’t feel all that love the same way you felt it on your wedding day, but seeing photos could help bring you back to that point so much quicker. And for me, personally, it has.

Phew- that was a lot– thanks for sticking with me, but I promise that wasn’t even my full rant! All in all, it is just too easy to forget about files. Do I on occasion go through my photos on my computer? Sure! But, I’m talking once every year. That is not enough by any standards.

alicia yarrish couples photographer prints heirloomsRecently I have come to realize I am not doing what I want my clients, friends, family, and strangers to do! I am printing photos, yes, but not to the extent that I want to be and certainly not to the extend that I encourage everyone around me to. I want to remedy this! These pictured prints & framed photos are currently laying around on various surfaces of my home and have been for longer than I care to admit… step one is to get these up so I can start ordering more!

Each month I am going to order prints so I can keep up with memories. It’s easy to become overwhelmed and just walk away from it when I have ‘too many’ prints to order. To ensure that overwhelmed feeling doesn’t happen I am going to stay on top of it! I’m also going to make it a priority to have our travels made into albums– which I am really excited about! Albums are my hands down favorite breed of heirloom!

I would absolutely love for you to join me in this resolution of mine! Let me know you are joining in and we can keep each other accountable for printing our memories and creating those heirlooms one print or album or acrylic block at a time! Let’s do this!

If you are a client of mine reading this & thinking- Alicia, I seriously need to order prints, email me! Let’s get prints ordered for you! Let me handle the hard part while you have the fun picking out the photos & sizes!

Or if you are reading this & thinking- Alicia, I seriously need photos to be able to order prints of, email me! Let’s get a session set up for you and a custom print package created!

No matter what stage you are at with photography- let me help you! 🙂 And let’s help each other stay accountable for getting our memories printed, bound, or framed so we can keep them in sight!
