Most every bride will Google “questions to ask my wedding photographer” at some point in their search for Houston wedding photographers. And rightfully so! During our initial consultation together I’ll touch on nearly all of these, however, it’s always nice to know beforehand as well!

Questions to Ask Your Wedding Photographer

How many photographers will photograph my wedding?

It’s very important to me that no moments on your wedding day are missed. Because of that AYP is a team of 3 at each and every wedding. Your lead photographer, a second photographer, as well as an assistant. Most likely your lead photographer will be me, Alicia, however, associates are available if I’m not available on your day. Our assistant takes care of moving things around for photo-ready spaces as well as our equipment. That way the photographers can focus on photographing and not miss precious moments due to moving things around.

Can we see the full galleries of a few of your recent weddings?

Absolutely! When you inquire with AYP about your Houston wedding photography you’ll receive information such as availability as well as recent, full, wedding galleries to view.

How would you describe your photo style?

Of all the questions to ask your wedding photographer, this might be my favorite! I vividly remember the first time I was asked this on an initial phone consultation with a bride. It actually stumped me for a moment. At that point, I had photographed weddings for years and had somehow not received the question yet.

The answer is simple- timeless. In each and every photo I strive to have the perfect mix of editorial, candid, and posed. Those attributes together create timeless images in-camera. Next, is editing which I also keep timeless.

My ultimate goal is for your wedding photos on the wall and in your heirloom album to never go out of style. Because why should they? Your wedding portraits should showcase your wedding beautifully, and the wedding trends at the time, however, the photos themselves should be timeless. Not too dark, not too bright- classic.

How would you describe your working style? Do you prefer to blend into the background to capture candid moments, or do you like to be more visible and take charge to choreograph images?

I’m a healthy mix of both. There are some moments where it is not appropriate for me to step in. For example, during any first looks, I will not step in and pose during your special moment together. I will, however, coach you prior to your first look to ensure your best side is showing and I don’t miss a single reaction.

An example where your I will step in and choreograph images is during designated portrait time if anything looks out of place as well as cake cutting time to ensure your best angles are captured and I can see both of your faces beautifully.

How long after the wedding will we receive the images? How will they be delivered?

I love this question- it’s so important to ask your wedding photographer! All your wedding images will be delivered within 3 weeks of your wedding date through an online gallery. Your online gallery will stay online 1 year after I deliver your images.

Just a few days after your wedding, you’ll receive “Wedding Highlights” in your online gallery. These highlights are 100-150 photos of the best moments of your wedding day. Then, just three weeks later you’ll receive all of your photos! These photos will be high-resolution and you will have printing rights to them.

What type of album do you offer? Do you provide assistance selecting images and designing the album?

I offer heirloom, handmade albums that truly are the best! I have a very streamlined system when it comes to album photo selection and design to make it easy for you and your fiancé. About a month after your wedding, I reach out with specific instructions on how to do everything. I’m very involved and choose the majority of the photos for you, however, I always want to know if there are a few extras on your “must-have” list.

After image selection, our expert designer takes your image and style preferences and creates a virtual flip through album proof for you two to view. Once you’ve made any necessary revisions I get your album sent to print.

Because all albums are handcrafted in America, the approximate time varies depending on their volume. 6-8 weeks is a good estimate though. And they are well worth the wait!

How many final images should I expect to receive?

This varies depending on how many hours we are photographing on your day. On average, wedding days are 8 hours and you can expect anywhere from 800-1,000 photos in that time. 6 hour days are less common and yield around 600-800 photos. And in my 12 hour Houston wedding days deliver around 1200-1500 photos.
