PCS Woes

It’s no secret that PCSing, or permanent change in station for the non military folks, is no easy task. It’s uprooting your entire life, coordinating with countless military and non military agencies, praying everything comes together, and then getting on a flight to your destination still just crossing your fingers everything is done, and properly. In a nutshell? It’s REAL stressful!

We added a layer of stress for ourselves by requesting that Greyson and I move early in hopes of establishing our household. That was an interesting back and forth process that ended with us getting just a few days (literally, 4 days I think it was) notice to be out of Germany! But now? Now our entire family is back in Houston! Soon, our belongings will be too. One of the final tasks on our list was to await our Honda being shipped from Germany to Dallas, and picking it up. Last week we got news it was ready for pick up so of course we made plans to go ASAP!

The Story of the Cars

Well, we bought a car a few weeks back for me to drive. My grandparents very generously have been letting us borrowing a car while we waited the Honda being back so we could be a two car family like ‘normal’ for us. So we’ve been a two car family, but were excited to be a two [our] car family! However, we’ve had nothing but problems since we purchased our ‘new’ used car! We found out it needed a new transmission and let the lot we bought it from know. They were very accommodating and offered to pay for the new transmission (which they didn’t legally have to do!). So that’s the back story.

Friday, we were on our way to Dallas in our new ‘old’ Nissan Murano (with a new transmission), I was on the phone with USAA activating the insurance on the Honda for pick up, and I heard Teylor in the background “Alicia, we’re loosing power”, “What is happening”, “…and the transmission is gone”. I had to politely tell the USAA agent that I needed to wrap up the conversation of coverage on the Honda and chat about roadside assistance on the Murano as we had coasted into a parking lot and were stuck! UGH!

A few hours later we had the Murano towed to the mechanic and were ready once again to start our journey to Dallas to pick up the Honda! Well, even longer story short we arrived at the vehicle processing facility exactly two minutes before they closed! Stressful? Yes. Am I happy it’s over? Also yes!

It reminded Teylor and I of our terrible experience getting the Honda to Dallas to be shipped to Germany! I would say that day was actually worse, but in general we don’t have a great track record of having a great time when we go to Dallas.

What’s Next?

The real big question! Next up we’re looking forward to having a hopefully fixed Nissan Murano and getting our household goods shipment in pretty soon. And in general just getting resettled and adjusted to Houston!

P.S. The photo of Greyson above is purely for giggles because it’s 100% how we felt on Friday going through all the car things!
