When to Wear Your Wedding Veil | Alicia Yarrish Photography - Houston Area Wedding Photographers

In England, it might be fashionable to wear a small veil on your hat for events, including weddings. However, in America, you’ll likely only wear a veil one day of your life. As a bride on your wedding day. And it’s such a special accessory on your wedding day!

However, they can be a lot to manage depending on the length and style of your wedding day veil. So when should you wear your veil and when should you go without it?

When to Wear Your Veil on Your Wedding Day

Walking Down the Aisle

What I consider to be the most important time to wear your veil. When you walk down the aisle you should absolutely wear your veil. Your fiancé is so excited to see you in your gown with all your accessories. As are your wedding guests.

During Bride and Groom Portraits after Your Ceremony

While you might not want to wear your wedding veil during your entire portrait time you want to be sure you capture it well before you take it off! Your wedding veil gives so much dimension to your portraits that you’ll love hanging these on your walls and having them in your albums.

Bridal Session

You caught me- this one isn’t on your wedding day, however, it’s a very important time to wear your wedding veil. During your bridal session, we have time to get creative. And that’s something we do not have on your wedding day in regards to photos of just you, the bride, that focus on your unique bridal beauty. So absolutely wear your veil during your bridal session to get a feel for your entire look, and to get unique and creative portraits with it.

When to Remove Your Wedding Veil

For your First Look

If you’re sharing a First Look with your fiancé it’s best to leave your wedding veil off for these photos. This shared moment is one that you are going to want to be able to easily embrace each other without fear of your hair or veil being moved out of place. Plus, removing your wedding veil for your First Look and saving it for walking down the aisle will give your groom, even more, to look forward to!

During Pre Ceremony Photos

Whether or not you’re sharing a First Look with your fiancé, we will likely photograph individual bridal parties prior to your ceremony. For these images, it’s much better to leave your wedding veil in the bridal suite and not wear it. You can plan to put on your veil after these portraits just before your ceremony. During bridal party portraits, you’ll need to be able to walk freely without fear of ruining your hair or veil positioning before your ceremony.

Grand Entrance & During Reception

Before your grand entrance is the perfect time to remove your wedding veil and have your Houston wedding planner put it away for the night! Throughout your reception time, you’ll want to be able to move around as much as you wish. You’ll also bustle your dress before your reception begins to help you have an easier time with everything from simply walking around to bustin’ a move on your dance floor.
